Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Three months from today, on 16 and 17 September, 1,000 properties are expected to open their doors free of charge on Heritage Open Days; inquiries to the Civic Trust (0171-930 0914) and London Open House (0181- 347 6007). In conjunction with the event, the Young Archaelogists' Club (01904 671417) is running National Archaeology Days.
Red squirrels, water voles and sika deer are some of the creatures to be spotted on Brownsea Island in Poole Harbour, Dorset. The Mammal Society (0171-498 4358) is organising a five-day expedition in the country for young people aged 12 to 18. It starts on 18 August and the price of pounds 116 includes accommodation, food and insurance.
Now that the TT races are over, ferries between the mainland and the Isle of Man have plenty of room. The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company (01624 661661) is running day trips to the island from Fleetwood (pounds 26 return) and Liverpool (pounds 30). Both these routes use the high-speed SeaCat, taking as little as two hours to make the crossing.
