Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

14 - 21 June

Ocho Rios, Jamaica

Jive to jazz in Jamaica. The 8th Ocho Rios Jazz Festival peaks with a night of blues and gospel at the Jamaica Grande on Friday 19. Join the cats at the nightly jazz jams being held in the Dragon's Lounge at the same venue.

19 - 29 June

St Petersburg

For those with a more classical taste in music the White Nights festival features new productions of Borodin's Prince Igor, Verdi's La Traviata and Wagner's The Flying Dutchman. The Kirov Opera, which has reverted to its original name of the Marinsky Opera, will be doing the singing.

19 June - 26 July

Singapore

"Shoppers Paradise - The Great Singapore Sale" gets underway with major retailers and department stores offering massive reductions on pretty much everything. Save even more money by claiming back the sales taxes at the airport's Asia Tax-Free Shopping counter.

19 June - 6 July

Brisbane

You wouldn't associate the sunshine city of Brisbane with snowball fights and cold weather fun, but for almost two weeks you'd be wrong. Tobogganing, ice skating and a snow-play-area are all part of the annual Fire and Ice Festival. Fireworks, light displays and themed spicy restaurant menus provide the fire.

20 - 28 June

The Kieler Woche, Kiel

The world's largest sailing event will attract around 5,000 sailors from more than 40 nations. Thirty-five warships from 14 nations will open their doors and fireworks with music will round off the event. This is northern Europe's largest summer festival, with musicians such as Mungo Jerry and Alannah Myles lined up, and the opera house is to stage the world premiere of Schimmelreiter (The Rider of the White Horse).
