Q I am one of four slightly worried south London mums, whose daughters (all 18 except one who is 17) are planning to celebrate finishing their A-levels with a trip to the Mediterranean. They want an all-inclusive package but don’t mind whether it is in Spain, Italy or Greece. We want them to have a reward to look forward to, but of course want them to be safe and, ideally, sensible. They want to let their hair down. To complicate things, other family commitments mean they can only travel out on 5 or 6 July. What do you suggest for a good destination at a reasonable price?

A I agree with them that a package holiday is an excellent plan. Personally, I would try to persuade them to go self-catering, which would mean they would get out and about from the resort, but it is of course their choice.

In terms of destination: Italy doesn’t really do mass-market all-inclusive, and Spain delivers a better product than Greece. I found some good prices in Menorca and Benidorm, but both of them will be much too “family” and won’t provide much Instagram credibility.

Ibiza, though, is an excellent island for young women. I recommend they should base themselves somewhere away from the full-on madness of San Antonio.

A week’s all-inclusive with TUI at the Sirenis Cala Llonga Resort, on the quieter eastern side of the island, looks ideal for a first young adults’ holiday. There are three pools, it’s close to the beach, and near enough to trendy Ibiza Town (about 12km) to allow for excursions. For a departure on 5 July, a busy time of year, the price is good at £560 per person, including flights from Gatwick. The timings are typical for Ibiza: a 9.50pm departure on Friday 5 July, with a 3.40am arrival back on Saturday 13 July. Slightly earlier options are available, but they are from Luton; to avoid the extra travel time, best stick with Gatwick.
