Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Blistering sunshine one moment, torrential downpours the next: if there’s one thing we can be certain of in the summer months, it’s that we can never be certain of the weather. For many Olympics fans, London and the UK is the place to be this summer. But, for those of us who would much rather 10 hours of sun a day rather than 10 hours of sport, July and August are the months for summer holidays.

It’s now more important than ever to be sensible with money, both at home and abroad. More and more people are turning to the internet in order to save their pennies. Online retail stores are teaming with before-season, during-season and after-season sales, so filling your suitcase with all the latest beach gear won’t be a problem. Finding a suitcase big enough to carry your beach wardrobe? That may be more difficult. Cheap holiday and flights deals are also in abundance online, whether you choose to book months in advance or last minute. However, the one thing that people don’t tend to research or buy online is the best currency deals.
It makes sense to get the best exchange rate for your money; after all, why pay more for your euros than you have to? In order to find the best currency deals it’s important to do your research.
There are plenty of currency exchange websites online. Many sites have regular updates on the euro and it pays, quite literally, to keep a close eye on rates in the days and weeks leading up to your holiday. There is also no need to add ‘buy euros’ to your holiday to-do list anymore. Many suppliers will now deliver to your door absolutely free of charge if you order over a certain amount.
The absolutely worst thing you can do is exchange your money at a kiosk at the airport. Think about it: you’re a captive customer so you’ll probably be lumbered with the worst rates. They will take advantage of the fact that there is little choice of currency exchange places and so will charge you over-and-above what you should pay. Don’t be manipulated, however. With the advent of the internet, it’s possible to pop along to a Wi-Fi desk or log into the internet on your phone and purchase a cheaper deal online.
Click here for the best euro rates and deals on currency exchange online. Squeeze it in between booking your holiday and shopping in the online stores – the amount you save on euros can always be put towards a new beach kaftan.
