Natural wonders

Follow the 350km of the Salzburger Almenweg – the Salzburg Alpine pastures trail – and discover a green landscape of lush pastures. You can refuel at an Alpine hut before carrying on with another one of the 31 hiking stages mapped out. The mountains turn into an adventure playground for children, helped by cable cars that run all summer long.

For two-wheeled thrills, cut loose among the 10,000km of cycling and mountain biking trails, and four bike parks. If you join the Tauern Cycle Trail, you can catch two of SalzburgerLand’s most impressive sights: the Krimml waterfalls and the world’s largest ice caves. If you’re on four wheels, wind your way along the hairpin turns of the Grossglockner High Alpine Road.

With 180 natural lakes – plus swimming lakes and outdoor pools – you’ll find plenty of places to cool off or enjoy stand-up paddleboarding. Fans of water sports should head to Lake Zell to rent sailboats and kiteboards to scoot across the water, or take things at a gentler pace in a canoe or kayak.

Head underground for a different side of SalzburgerLand – the Hallein Salt Mine burrowing into the Dürnberg plateau above Hallein.
