Three top-end hotels opened in China this week, in the Special Administrative Zone of Macau, Shanghai and Ningbo. Outside of China, a quirky pot hotel has opened in Los Angeles and a luxury beachfront resort on the Caribbean island of Curaçao.

Wynn Encore Macau
Macau, China
Encore at Wynn Macau consists of 414 suites and villas which Wynn describes as the "loveliest hotel in the world." The property includes a 205,000 square foot (19,045 square meters) casino, six restaurants, 46,000 square feet (4,273 square meters) of retail space, a health club and pool. It also hosts Spa at Encore, which offers eight private therapy suites, each with their own steamroom, sauna and aromatherapy bath and shower.

InterContinental Shanghai Expo
Shanghai, China
The InterContinental Shanghai Expo is the only luxury hotel on the Shanghai Expo site, offering 400 rooms, five restaurants, a spa, gym and pool and impressive riverfront gardens complete with jogging tracks. InterContinental has also converted several 1930s villas on the site, once used by employees of the factories, into a pub and several freestanding luxury residences with private gardens.

Shangri-La Hotel, Ningbo
Ningbo, China
The Shangri-La Ningbo, Shangri-La's 28th property in mainland China, officially opened this week after final building work on the 563-room building was completed. Guests can interface personal electronic devices such as MP3 players, iPods and digital cameras in their rooms, enjoy the 25-meter swimming pool, a gym, two tennis courts and a 1,000-square-meter spa.

Normandie Hotel, Los Angeles

This former budget hotel in LA's Koreatown has reopened with a new twist - it is to become a "pot hotel", allowing patrons to smoke marijuana (for medical purposes, naturally) legally. Facilities include vending machines in the lobby.

Situated on the Caribbean beachfront, this 350-room resort features Old Quarry by Pete Dye, an 18-hole championship resort golf course, Atabei Spa, an eco-friendly holistic retreat inspired by the island's ancient traditions and rituals and a full-service marina. There are three restaurants and three outdoor pools with ocean views.
