Now... Train to the coast
Discounted day trips by train from the London area to Dorset, Devon and the Isle of Wight are available for the rest of this month if you book an off-peak day return online at least 24 hours ahead and travel on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday. A return from London to Exeter costs £51.70.
Soon... Kick back on the beach
On 5 October, Hayes & Jarvis has a week at the five-star Heritage Le Telfair in Mauritius for £1,399pp, based on an Emirates flight from Gatwick via Dubai, transfers and half-board. The resort is close to Bel Ombre on the south coast.
Later... Get active in Greece
The new Neilson beach club at Vounaki on the west coast of Greece opens next May. Activities include windsurfing and dinghy sailing. Peak prices for the summer are £1,515 for adults and £1,061 for children, including flights from Gatwick, transfers, and most meals.
Deals of the week
Less than £200... Fly to the Med for less
Until noon on Friday 12 September, Monarch is selling tickets to key destinations on off-peak dates until 26 March. On 28 October, for example, Manchester to Palma de Mallorca costs £30 one way – plus an extra £20 to check in a bag.
Less than £500... Winter on the water
P&O is selling winter cruises starting and ending at Southampton for £499pp until 15 December. The price applies to the cheapest cabins on the 11-night Spain, Gibraltar and Portugal cruise (adults only) on 9 December, and a 10-nighter on 23 February.
Less than £1,000... December escape to Las Vegas
Early December is prime time for deals at upmarket locations. For £921pp, Virgin Holidays has three nights at Wynn Las Vegas, including flights from Gatwick, departing on 5 December; similar prices on other nearby dates. The $25 per night Resort Fee is optional - it gives internet access and gym admission.
