Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Trinidad via Toronto

A new daily WestJet flight from Canada's largest city to Port of Spain launches on 16 November. The timings – overnight outbound, morning inbound – make it ideal for connections to transatlantic flights, presenting an alternative to other one-stop ways of reaching Trinidad (westjet.com).

Sinai warning

The Foreign Office advises against all but essential travel to much of south Sinai in Egypt. Exceptions include Red Sea resorts such Sharm el Sheikh. (fco.gov.uk/travel)

Aman for all seasons

Amanresorts opens its third Mediterranean resort today. Amanzoe is on the east coast of the Peloponnese and has 38 suites. Doubles from €883 (amanresorts.com).

Swift half

Expert Africa has a new excursion for visitors to Zimbabwe. The Prospector's Pub Crawl explores the drinking dens of Bulawayo used by 19th-century gold prospectors. From £45 pp (expertafrica.com).

4,700

The number of pubs featured in the new Good Pub Guide 2013, edited by Alisdair Aird and Fiona Stapley. As well as the results of their search for Pub of the Year, there's the Wine Pub of the Year and even Outside Loo of the Year. Published on Tuesday, £15.99 (eburypublishing.co.uk).

Wake up

Just Wake is a new cable wakeboarding park at Tattershall Lakes in Lincolnshire. The sport – which uses a cable to pull the participant on a wakeboard – has been shortlisted as a new Olympic sport for 2020. Adults £20 (justwake.co.uk).

Firth sight

Open the curtains to see the Moray Firth, and possibly seals and dolphins, at Beach Cottage B&B, which opens near Inverness this month. The restored fisherman's cottage has two plush doubles from £70 (beachcottageinverness.co.uk).

Page turner

Ubud in Bali hosts its annual literary festival from 3-7 October. Indonesian writers will be joined by, among others, John Pilger and Nick Cave, who will be hosting talks, alongside workshops and art and culinary events (ubudwritersfestival.com).
