Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Today: Cabaret, circus, comedy and a conversation with John Malkovich: some of the treats in store at the Sydney Festival, which is getting underway. Tonight's Festival First Night features a performance from Arrested Development and a vaudeville reinterpretation of Hyde Park. The festival runs until the end of January ( sydneyfestival.org.au).
This week: Outdoor enthusiasts should head to London's docklands where the Outdoors Show, London Bike Show and International Boat Show are all staged at the ExCeL Centre from Thursday to Sunday. Highlights at the Outdoors Show include talks from Sir Ranulph Fiennes and Ray Mears, a wilderness camp and Great British Festival ( theoutdoorsshow.co.uk; thelondonbikeshow.co.uk; londonboatshow.com).
In the diary: Monarch Airlines is set to compete with Cyprus Airways and launching a new route to Paphos from Gatwick, Birmingham and Manchester this spring. The twice weekly flights to the south-western coastal city start on 4 May and supplement the airline's existing route to Larnaca ( monarch.co.uk).
