Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Summer in Sicily

Essentially Prestige launched a new “Love Sicily” brochure this week. Whether you want to shop in Palermo, see the sights of Siracusa or take in opera in Taormina, bookings are now open for summer 2013, with short breaks and winter escapes for the off-season (prestigeholidays.co.uk/sicily).

Key best

The southernmost town in Florida, Key West, is now easier to reach: it has joined the Southwest Airlines network with daily flights from Tampa (southwest.com).

Double Dutch

Manston airport on the Isle of Thanet in east Kent makes another attempt to connect with the rest of the world from 2 April next year, when KLM launches two daily flights to and from its hub at Amsterdam Schiphol (klm.com).

Parisian chic

The Hôtel Atmosphères has opened in St Germain, near the Jardin du Luxembourg, with quirky rooms and more than 100 prints by French photographer Thierry des Ouches (hotelatmospheres.com).

Silver lining

The Foreign Office softened its warning against travel to Kashmir this week, lifting the caution on the cities of Srinagar, Jammu and the road between them. Restrictions remain across the rest of the state (fco.gov.uk).

Local hangout

Want to hang out in Williamsburg or hit the clubs in Kreuzberg? Airbnb has launched a “Neighbourhoods” facility on its website that gives you the low-down on districts in cities from New York to Berlin, then offers you a room or flat to rent (airbnb.co.uk).

Mara watch

Photographer and wildlife guide Paul Goldstein reveals his passion for the natural world of East Africa with a charity presentation at the Royal Institution in London on 26 Nov; £12 (0845 863 9606).

615

The price, in sterling, for a return flight from Heathrow to Phnom Penh, the Cambodian capital. Singapore Airlines has a short-notice promotion to help fill departures during the remainder of November. Returns to the Vietnamese hubs of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are available at £605 (singaporeair.com)
