Travel Agenda: Spanish and Latin American Film Festival; Waldorf Astoria in Syon Park; La Dolce Vita; Eight Weeks to Go campaign
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Today: The Spanish and Latin American Film Festival gets under way in Manchester. Viva! will be showing films from Spain to Argentina and Uruguay, including 80 Days, as well as a British film on Mexican-American identity in San Diego. Accompanying events and a photographic exhibition will run in tandem until 27 March (vivafilmfestival.com).
This week: After a minor hitch (a Roman settlement was unearthed in the grounds during construction), the Waldorf Astoria is opening in Syon Park in west London on Tuesday. The luxury country-house-style resort is in the grounds of the Duke of Northumberland's estate (waldorfastoria.com). Also in the capital, get a taste for Italy at "La Dolce Vita", which starts on Thursday at the Business Design Centre in Islington. The event brings together all things Italian, from holidays to food and wine; until Sunday (ladolcevitaevent.co.uk).
In The Diary: Make sure you're up to date with vaccinations and health precautions before your next holiday. The "Eight Weeks to Go" campaign encourages travellers to find out what's advised for their destination (8weekstogo.co.uk).
