Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Today: Check into the latest hotel by Giorgio Armani, in the Italian fashion capital, Milan, complete with 95 spacious guestrooms (armanihotels.com). In London, the Southbank Winter Festival gets under way with cultural events that take in a winter garden grotto, festive lights, a musical and an exhibition (southbankcentre.co.uk/winter).
This week: Spain's third- largest city celebrates its culinary credentials. Valencia Restaurant Week runs from Monday to Sunday, with 80 restaurants offering special €20 and €30 menus, plus vineyard tours, wine tastings and demonstrations from Michelin-starred chefs in the food market (vlcrestaurantweek.com). Meanwhile, the Bath Christmas Market opens on Thursday, with 130 wooden chalets selling handmade gifts, decorations, hampers, West Country cheeses and mulled wine until 11 December (bathchristmasmarket.co.uk).
In the diary: Listen to the travel writer and guidebook publisher Hilary Bradt reflect on her career and her passion for adventure at the Royal Geographical Society in South Kensington, London, on Wednesday 30 November. Tales might include being arrested in Uganda, hitchhiking to Frankfurt or being jailed in Ethiopia (rgs.org).
