Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Today: The first 150 people to arrive in their pyjamas at Legoland Windsor will be given a free night's stay at the Legoland Hotel, which is opening at the resort next March ( legoland.co.uk). In Cornwall, the Fifteen Cornwall Autumn Farmer's Market is in Watergate Bay ( fifteencornwall.co.uk/farmersmarkets.htm); and a nine-day Harvest Festival starts at the Eden Project ( edenproject.com).

This week: Crazy About Kenya – a project run with tour operator Acacia Africa to showcase the nation's art and music abroad – is coming to London with an exhibition of artist Shake Makelele's work at the gallery@oxo from 6-23 October ( coinstreet.org). On Friday, the Hay on Wye launches a Walking Festival. The three-day event takes in stargazing in the Brecon Beacons, geology walks and talks from Arctic explorers ( haywalkingfestival.co.uk).

In the diary: Santa Monica gets a hip new destination in the shape of the Shore Hotel. Bright and breezily-styled rooms, many of which overlook the Pacific, are available from mid-October ( shorehotel.com).
