Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Today...

Lapland comes to Kent. Bewl Water Estate will be transformed to a winter wonderland, with huskies, elves and of course, Santa; until 24 December (laplanduk.co.uk).

This week...

See Truro sparkle on Wednesday when it celebrates the City of Lights festival. It kicks off with live music and culminates with a parade of decorative lights and lanterns (trurocityoflights.co.uk).

On Thursday, Morgans Hotel Group opens Ames in downtown Boston. Set in the turn-of-the-century Ames skyscraper, its original fireplaces and windows have been preserved, with a dose of modern luxury added for good measure (ameshotel.com).

Also on Thursday, the Terra Cotta Warriors come to the National Geographic Museum in Washington DC. The army will be in the capital on the last leg of their world tour before returning back to China, on 1 April 2010 (nationalgeographic.com/ terracottawarriors).

In the diary...

Ryanair will start flying from Birmingham to Grenoble, the gateway to some of France's finest ski resorts, from 19 December (ryanair.com).
