Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Today: Get your hands on a copy of Green London, Enjoy England's and Green Traveller's new map that lists environmentally conscious places to stay, eat and visit in the capital. The map is also available to download ( enjoyengland.com). Also in the capital, good places to watch the Boat Race are the Bishop's Park in Fulham and Furnivall Gardens in Hammersmith, where big screens and beer will be on tap. More Spring celebrations surround the National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington DC, with parades, fireworks and street festivals ( nationalcherryblossomfestival.org)

This week: Get a flavour of the Swiss capital, Bern, and the rest of Switzerland at Harrods in London from Thursday to 30 April: chocolate and cheese tastings, a model railway and upgrades on rail passes ( myswitzerland.com/harrods). On Friday, the St Regis hotel opens in the financial district of Bangkok ( starwoodhotels.com).

In the diary: The big cultural event in Antwerp this summer is the opening of MAS – the Museum aan de Stroom – on 17 May. The dramatic new structure will open complete with a two-Michelin starred restaurant, 'T Zilte, which moves from a smaller venue in the city, and what is claimed to be "the largest museum collection of port cranes in the world" ( mas.be).

Finally, a new hotel loyalty scheme, the Global Hotel Alliance, is offering guests reward points across a range of groups, rather than the traditional single-brand scheme ( gha.com).
