1. Head north

2. Gourmet walk

3. Game on

On Monday, comedians Mark Watson and Henning Wehn appear in the first of a six-part, football-themed journey across South America in the run up to next month's Fifa World Cup. The epic road trip sees the pair go from Uruguay to Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, Colombia and Brazil. The first episode of Road to Rio airs on Dave at 7pm.

4. Piggy party

Smoked & Uncut is a series of music festivals at Lime Wood country house in the New Forest (1 June) and The Pig hotels in Studland Bay (3 August), Bath (7 September) and Brockenhurst (14 September). As well as bands such as Raglans and Natives, there will be food stalls and a Chase vodka bar. Tickets £25pp.

5. Cat nap

Namiri Plains opens in Tanzania's Serengeti on 1 July. The camp – whose name refers to the Swahili for "big cat" – is in a conservation area that was previously closed to create a haven for cheetah breeding and research. The felines now thrive in the area, along with lions and leopards.

6. Night cap

The Pilot is a 200-year-old pub-with-rooms on the Greenwich Peninsula, close to London's O2, that's recently undergone a contemporary renovation. Upstairs there are a handful of colourful, modern suites, with eye-catching bed throws and bright art prints.

7. Art houses

Open Studios Cornwall gets under way from 24 May until 1 June, with 200 established and up-and-coming artists welcoming visitors into cottages and chapels, beachside ateliers and historic buildings. The free county-wide event offers the chance to buy art from the source, ask questions of the artists and attend workshops.
