LD Lines ferries to Boulogne are busy all weekend, but all these operators have capacity available on some sailings – as does Norfolkline from Dover to Dunkirk.

And in London on Friday, the Barclays Cycle Hire scheme gets into gear; the first "rent it here, leave it there" customers are those who pre-register online ( tfl.gov.uk ). It launches fully in August.
In the diary: Competition to southern Spain steps up this winter with Ryanair announcing a base in the city of Seville, with flights promised from Gatwick starting in November, in addition to the existing Stansted service.
