Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Today...

The Capella Ixtapa opens, between Mexico's Sierra Madre mountains and the Pacific Ocean. Its 59 luxurious guestrooms and suites spill down a cliff-side overlooking the coastline of the state of Guerrero (capellaixtapa.com).

This week...

The opening of Amanresorts' Villa Milocer in Montenegro materialises on Monday. The former royal residence completes the first stage of the restoration of Sveti Stefan (amanresorts.com). Over in the Caribbean, the route lost between Gatwick and Grenada with XL's demise is set to be launched again on Wednesday by Monarch's charter division; flights will alsocontinue on to Tobago (monarchholidays.co.uk).

In the diary...

Genoa might seem a fitting location for the Circumnavigando Festival. But rather than a celebration of its continent-exploring progeny, this festival showcases circus and street theatre, from 18-26 December (circumnavigando.com). Also defying the wintry weather is Turin, where the streets will be illuminated by an open-air exhibition of light installations until 11 January (comune.torino.it).
