Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

NYC's French fancy

The Jade Hotel will bring a flourish of Parisian-inspired Art Deco chic to Greenwich Village when it opens next week. The 113 rooms feature bold prints, sultry colours and local CO Bigelow Apothecary toiletries. The Grapevine Restaurant will be using Hudson Valley ingredients (thejadenyc.com).

Head strong

Ski/board helmets are being made mandatory in some mountain resorts and by some insurers. Nevica has a range of new options that include men's, women's and children's versions from £59.99 (nevica.co.uk).

Jet set, go!

WorldTop7 is a new website that lists deals on jet-set holiday destinations, hotels and restaurants. You can search by celebrity too: click on George Clooney to discover resorts in Bali and Italy which the actor has visited (worldtop7.com).

Boutique Berlin

The Das Stue hotel is now open opposite the Tiergarten park with bright, retro interiors by Spanish designer Patricia Urquiola, photographs by Helmut Newton and rooms that have views of the ostrich enclosure of Berlin Zoo (das-stue.com).

Winter wanders

Today and tomorrow, Walk London is leading free guided strolls around the capital, ranging from the Lea Valley Walk to the Thames Path. Walks are broken down into manageable sections, with start times listed on the website (walklondon.org.uk).

Eastern extension

InsideJapan Tours has now launched InsideVietnam Tours. The "Highlights of Vietnam" 10‑night trip on 23 March is £1,290pp, flights extra (insidevietnamtours.com).

Animal encounter

Journeys of Distinction has a one-off tour to witness the Great Migration in Kenya. The 13‑day trip costs £6,999pp with flights on 23 August (jod.uk.com).
