Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Into the wild

A series of new tours, including the 11-day "Untamed Borneo" cycling holiday, has been launched by World Expeditions. The trip takes in Mount Kinabalu and the Sepilok Orangutan centre. It costs £1,490pp and departs 23 Sept and 28 Oct, with more dates in 2013. Flights extra (worldexpeditions.com).

Sleek retreat

Anouska Hempel has designed the new La Suite West, in Bayswater. Expect the same boutique feel and Oriental accents as her hit hotel, Blake's, in Kensington (lasuitewest.com).

Senior Scots

Catalonia caution

Catalonia has started charging climbers and skiers for rescues, to encourage adventurers to be more careful. For the past year the regional government has been sending bills to rescuees deemed to have been negligent (fco.gov.uk/travel).

Art attack

Devon Open Studios starts today until 30 Sept, as local artists invite you into their homes and studios work. There are also events such as the Mad Hatter's Tea Party in Crediton from 4pm tomorrow. Timetables at: devonartistnetwork.co.uk

Splash out

Down on the farm

The Old Barn is a new luxury rental, sleeping eight on the Holt Estate, near Glastonbury. It has a huge open-plan kitchen and lounge, with a dramatic vaulted ceiling. Book through Perfect Stays for short breaks from £950 (perfectstays.co.uk).
