Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Today: Long-haul passengers in BMI's Business Class cabin are in for a treat with the launch of complimentary citrus-fragranced amenity kits by London perfumier Miller Harris ( flybmi.com ; millerharris.com ).
This week: Get a taste for the Med in the heart of London. From Friday to 27 June, a "Greek Beach" by the Thames will pop up on the South Bank, with sun loungers, Greek music, sand sculptures, beach football and competitions to win Greek holidays ( tasteofgreece.co.uk ). On the same day, the legendary bookshop Shakespeare and Company in Paris launches its free biannual literary festival, this year welcoming writers and commentators such as Martin Amis, Fatima Bhutto and Will Self; until 20 June ( festivalandco.com ).
In The Diary: Thompson Hotels recently expanded north from the US to Canada with the soft opening of Thompson Toronto last week. Presently, only the rooms are open, but a sushi and Italian restaurant and 24-hour diner will complete the package by the end of the month ( thompsonhotels.com ).
