Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Today: The Halcyon Hotel is open in Bath. Set in a typical Georgian townhouse it offers a break from the genteel norm – luxurious and chic rooms that start from just £99 per night ( thehalcyon.com ).

This week: Sees the start of the Year of the Tiger. Major Chinese New Year celebrations will take place in Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai and Singapore tomorrow, with colourful parades, music and feasts. For a taste of the Far East closer to home, head to Asia House in London, which is currently hosting a Food of Asia Festival. There are talks, workshops, tastings and demonstrations from some of the continent's best chefs, until 24 February ( asiahouse.org ).

In The Diary: Ben Fogle and James Cracknell will be at the Outdoors Show at Birmingham NEC from 26-28 February; you can try your hand at ice-climbing, or try out equipment for summer ( outdoorsshowextra.co.uk ). Finally Zante, one of the Ionian Islands of Greece, gets connected with Gatwick from 21 May, thanks to easyJet.
