Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Today: No need to go all the way to Asia for a taste of Amanresorts. The luxury group has a new spa at The Connaught hotel in Mayfair, London, with treatments borrowed from its resorts in China, Thailand, India and the Americas (the-connaught.co.uk).

This week: New York Restaurant Week gets under way on Monday. The event, which in fact runs for two weeks, brings together 260 restaurants offering discounts and a truck offering gourmet soup around the city (nycgo.com/restaurantweek). On Tuesday, Australia Day – commemorating the arrival of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove in 1788 – is marked by the specialist operator Austravel. It is offering a giveaway of visas, tours and more for bookings made between 26-30 January (austravel.com). Another luxury London hotel, Grosvenor House, is launching its first Literati Book Club evening on Thursday: veteran journalist Kate Adie, left, will read from and discuss her book Into Danger (marriott.co.uk).

In the diary: From May, the low-cost carrier Pegasus Airlines is launching new direct routes out of the UK to Antalya, Bodrum, left, and Dalaman in Turkey (flypgs.com).
