Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Today: Aer Lingus launches a twice-daily service from Gatwick to Cork, which will be in addition to its service from Heathrow and will muscle in on Ryanair's monopoly on the route ( aerlingus.com ).

This week: With less speed and more style, the Brooklands Hotel opens in Weybridge, Surrey, on Monday on the site of the former Brooklands motor racing circuit. Art Deco-inspired interiors will feature in the rooms, brasserie, bar and spa ( brooklandshotelsurrey.com ). Yet more glamour is offered in Paris, where an exhibition celebrating the life and work of Yves Saint-Laurent opens at the Petit Palais on Thursday, with photos, films and hundreds of his creations; until 29 August ( petitpalais.paris.fr ).

In the diary: Accra gets easier to reach from 24 May, when Virgin Atlantic starts flying to the Ghanaian capital from Heathrow. The thrice-weekly flights will compete with British Airways from Heathrow and Ghana International from Gatwick.
