Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Anyone who held their nerve in the hope of a bargain for a five-star family beach resort for half term can claim their reward. With less than a week to go, Mark Warner (markwarner.co.uk) has cut the price of the final week of the season at its flagship Levante Beach Resort in Rhodes. A family of four pays £1,001pp (slightly less for couples). Families who booked two months ago paid £400 more. The price includes BA flights from Heathrow, half board and many activities.
Powder puff
Powder White (powderwhite.com) is offering two weeks in a fully catered ski chalet for just £50 a night – though this does not include flights, ski passes or equipment hire. A 14-night stay at Chalet Aqualina in Val d'Isere costs £699pp, arriving on 6 December. Early season deals are also available in St Anton, Verbier, Val d'Isere, Courchevel and Méribel.
Golden brown
Enjoy some winter sun in Tobago. Golden Holidays (golden-holidays.co.uk) is offering a week at the four-star Magdalena Grand Beach & Golf Resort for £719pp, based on two sharing. The price includes Monarch charter flights from Gatwick (with 30kg luggage), transfers and breakfast, and applies to departures on 29 October or 5, 12 or 19 November.
Italian connections
The entry of Norwegian (norwegian.com) on the Gatwick-Rome route has helped ease fares to the Italian capital to ridiculous levels. Tickets are available for £75 return (flying out on 27 November, back on 1 December). Norwegian serves Rome's main airport, Fiumicino.
