The Good Family Hotel Guide: Beaches Negril, Jamaica
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Mood
Ageing hippies might tear out their dreadlocks at the idea of an all- inclusive family hotel sharing their free-wheeling beach - until, that is, they have kids. The resort and beach offer more contact with the local scene than others on the island.
Accommodation
Large family rooms with air conditioning, massive TVs and well-stocked fridges.
Beach
Lively and safe. The seven-mile stretch is the best in Jamaica, and pure theatre. There are separate areas for motorised watersports.
Activities
A nursery, "Kids Kamp" and 16 staff cater for under-12s from 9am to 9pm. Teenagers can try tennis, and water-skiing and scuba diving are free, which is rare. Nanny and baby-sitting services cost US$5 (about £3) per hour.
Refuelling
Four eating places for families, including a Japanese restaurant, a surprising favourite with kids. One a la carte restaurant is adults only.
Out and about
The Black River Safari is a 90-minute boat trip through mangrove avenues in search of 100 species of birds and close-quarter crocodiles; $15 (£10) per adult, $10 (£6.50) per child.
Sample prices
Several tour operators offer all-inclusive deals; Kuoni (01306 742222) does a week for £1,365.
Address
Beaches is at PO Box 12, Long Bay, Negril, Jamaica (001 876 957 9270, fax 001 876 957 9269).
