From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Star Wars fans will soon be able to play their part in an interactive adventure inspired by the film franchise, as a new Star Wars inspired resort has been confirmed by head honchos at Disney.

The hotel will be part of Disney’s new “360 vacation” concept – the brand wants to create immersive experiences that allow guests to be part of their favourite stories.

“It’s unlike anything that exists today,” said Bob Chapek, chairman of Walt Disney Parks & Resorts.

“From the second you arrive, you will become a part of a Star Wars story! You’ll immediately become a citizen of the galaxy and experience all that entails, including dressing up in the proper attire.

“Once you leave Earth, you will discover a starship alive with characters, stories, and adventures that unfold all around you. It is 100 per cent immersive, and the story will touch every single minute of your day, and it will culminate in a unique journey for every person who visits.”

The location and completion date for the resort have not yet been confirmed. However, Disney also announced two new Star Wars themed lands are in the works, with both expected to be completed by 2019.

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge will first open at Disneyland, California, before launching at Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World in Florida. Two major rides have been planned – one gives visitors the chance to be part of a battle between the Resistance and the First Order, while the other lets participants fly the Millennium Falcon.

Galaxy's Edge will be 14 acres – Disney Park's largest single-themed land expansion.

"It's got to be big. Go big or go home with Star Wars," said Chris Beatty, Disney Imagineer and executive director of the various new expansions taking place. He said that Galaxy’s Edge would be more than just a themed land; it would be a whole new planet.

“It's kind of forgotten about. People in the know like Han and Chewie, they knew of this place," he said.
