Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The Bloody Mary's heady hair-of-the-dog mix has been reviving sorry souls for nearly a century. The man behind it was Fernand Petiot, a Frenchman who first concocted the cocktail in a Parisian bar in 1921 and later moved to New York to become chief bartender at The St Regis hotel. Now, in honour of Petiot's contribution to cocktail menus the world over, the St Regis Resort in Bali has introduced a Bloody Mary ritual to its Remède Spa. It begins with a tomato and wasabi body scrub, followed by a vodka clay wrap, a detoxifying massage and, finally, a tomato vermouth salt bath. The indulgent experience is rounded off by guzzling freshly shucked oysters beneath a gazebo, while gazing out to a lily-covered pond.
St Regis Resort, Nusa Dua, Bali (00 62 361 8478 111; stregisbali.com). Doubles from US$633 (£422), with transfers, breakfast and the 150-minute Bloody Mary ritual at the Remède Spa.
