Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Beaches, rainforest and colonial cities; mountains, islands and music: Colombia has many attractions for prospective visitors. But since British Airways and the Colombian national airline, Avianca, abandoned direct services from London, the country has been difficult to reach from the UK. Most travellers put up with awkward transfers via Miami or Madrid. But a new Avianca service has made life much easier: a non-stop link to Bogota from Barcelona.
Connections at the Catalan capital's relatively compact airport are quicker and less stressful than elsewhere. In addition, fares via Barcelona are excellent value. From Avianca (08705 767 747; www.avianca.co.uk) or through specialist operators you should find fares from London to Bogota for around £650 return; these use British Airways services for the UK-Barcelona segment.
Bargain of the week: Normandy for £50
Between Newhaven and Dieppe, Trans Manche Ferries (0800 917 1201; www.transmancheferries.com) is offering a three-day return for a car and up to five people for just £50.
