If you can travel between now and midnight on Monday, 28 July, and have access to the internet, you can take advantage of the best-ever offer on Britain's long-distance buses.
For departures this weekend only, National Express is offering a flat fare of £5, single or return, for travel between any two points it serves in Britain.
You must log on at www.national-express.com, register as a customer (which you may find an annoyingly cumbersome task) and add the promotional code WEEKEND5 - "weekend" in capitals, followed by the number five.
Test bookings made yesterday reveal you can travel, for example, from Manchester to Edinburgh, Cardiff to Newcastle or London to St Ives for £5 return. Be warned that the site was repeatedly unavailable due to the number of people trying to access it.
Warning of the week: Spain
Following two bomb attacks this week on hotels on the Costa Blanca, attributed to the Basque terrorist group ETA, the Foreign Office has strengthened its advice for travellers to Spain.
The FO says that, earlier this year, "the British Embassy in Madrid received a letter stating that tourist facilities would continue to be ETA targets during 2003, and again warned tourists to stay away from Spanish resorts or risk involvement in their actions".
The warning goes on to say that a report in an internal ETA bulletin appears to herald "a possible further widening of the campaign against the Spanish economy... that multinational companies with operations in Spain could also become targets".
Bargain of the week: New Zealand and Australia in business class - if you travel with a friend
The lowest official fare in business class on Air New Zealand from London Heathrow to Auckland is £2,899. Yet for anyone travelling out and back with a partner before the end of November, the price falls to just £1,753 each. You can stop off in either or both directions in Los Angeles with no additional payment.
For £100 more, you can fly to Sydney, Brisbane or Melbourne. These require a change of plane at Auckland; you can opt to pay another £100 to stop off in New Zealand's largest city.
Book with Air New Zealand on 0800 028 4149 or www.airnewzealand.co.uk, or through an agent (who may possibly offer even cheaper rates), by the end of August. You must stay away at least one week but no more than two months.
