Sleepover: Borough, Edinburgh
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.A warehouse conversion with a restaurant, bar and nine bedrooms. The retro interior has dark wooden floors and leather sofas and chairs.
Where is it?
On Edinburgh's Causewayside, a short stroll from the centre and old town.
What's it like?
A warehouse conversion with a restaurant, bar and nine bedrooms. The retro interior has dark wooden floors and leather sofas and chairs.
What's its USP?
Escape the tourists clutching tartan blankets and all things chintz (inescapable here).
Ambience?
Quiet in the mornings, busy in the evenings in the bar and restaurant. I was worried the noise would penetrate our room, but found it peaceful.
Service?
Service with a smile from the friendly Scots staff.
Rooms?
The word warehouse suggests lots of space, but the rooms are rather compact. I kept bashing my shins on the edge of the bed. Molton Brown toiletries add a nice touch, but a hair dryer and towel rail would have been useful. Doubles £70, including breakfast.
Food?
The restaurant serves fusion food and there are bar snacks from 11am to midnight.
Clientele?
Young – not somewhere to take your ageing aunt.
Things to do?
Residents can use Player's, with American pool tables and large screen video projector. Outside, the sightseeing possibilities are well documented.
Address?
Borough Hotel, 72-80 Causewayside, Edinburgh EH9 1PY (0131-668 2255; www.boroughhotel.com)
