Qantas will resume passenger flights on its grounded superjumbo fleet, the airline's chief executive announced yesterday.

Alan Joyce said the decision to put its six Airbus A380s back into service followed the completion of safety checks since an engine failed over Indonesia earlier this month. Mr Joyce said Qantas was now "completely comfortable with the operation of the aircraft" and the first flight would be at the weekend.

The scare prompted a safety review of Rolls-Royce engines on 20 of the world's largest jets operated by three airlines.
