A plane flew 2,500 miles with just one passenger onboard.

El Al reportedly flew a Boeing 737 jet from Tel Aviv, Israel, to Casablanca, Morocco, to pick up a passenger based in the north African city for medical treatment.

Local aviation reporter Itay Blumental tweeted about the Israel national carrier’s flight, which left Tel Aviv on 26 April and returned to the coastal city later that day.

According to data from tracking website FlightRadar24, flight LY5051 left Tel Aviv Ben Gurion airport at 14.20 and landed in Casablanca at 17.22, taking just over six hours to get there.

Presumably after picking up the passenger, the narrow-body Boeing jet then left at 19.10, landing back in Tel Aviv at just before 3am, taking just under five hours.

According to Mr Blumental, the flight was chartered for an Israeli businessman, living in Morocco, who required medical treatment.

In a two-class layout, a Boeing 737 jet can seat around 160 passengers.
