From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Londoners have named the Northern line their least favourite underground line by a stretch, in a new YouGov poll.

The line is the second busiest in the capital, and is particularly congested south of the river, where it is just one of three lines to reach into south London.

Taking 32 per cent of the vote, the line took the least favourite prize way ahead of its nearest competitors - the District line with 13 per cent of the vote and the Bakerloo line, which took 10 per cent.

Transport for London has even recently taken to handing commuters leaflets encouraging them to take alternative transport - including walking - between Tooting Bec and Clapham North, where people regularly have to wait for two or three trains to pass before there is space to board.

The underground’s youngest line, the Jubilee, meanwhile was voted Londoner’s favourite, taking nearly a quarter of the vote. The Victoria line took second place with 19 per cent whilst in the Central and Piccadilly lines came in joint third.

There is however some good news for disgruntled Northern line commuters - it is currently being upgraded. Once complete, the line’s capacity will increase by a fifth - the equivalent to an extra 11,000 passengers an hour. Journey times will also be reduced by 18 per cent, TfL says.
