Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

WHAT I LIKED

Off the coast of Sicily there is an island called Vulcano and it has a sleeping volcano. My mum, dad and I climbed to the very top. Inside the crater were vents of sulphur. All of us almost gagged, the smell was so horrible. It was a great view though.

WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE

In Sorrento, the hotel we booked was under construction and wasn't ready for people to stay in. As a result we ended up staying in another hotel. Nothing worked and the breakfast wasn't good.

WHAT I SAW

I visited lots of ruins. We went to Agrigento in Sicily, a site with Greek ruins and saw ruins from about 600BC. While staying in Sorrento we went to visit Naples. I have to admit that Naples needed help to keep it clean, but the churches and museums were great!

WHAT I BOUGHT

I bought a clay Cyclops, a pen with my name on it, a book about volcanoes, sunglasses, a purse, a scarf, a ceramic turtle and rocks from a volcano.

WHAT I ATE AND DRANK

Italy is famous for pizza and pasta, so you probably know what I ate. In Sorrento I came down with the flu. It only lasted 24 hours, but I couldn't really eat or drink anything during that time.

WOULD I GO BACK?

I would have to say yes and no, because I liked visiting Sicily and Sorrento but you should also try new things. I liked Italy a lot.
