Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Me, my mum and grandparents flew to Rome during the Easter holidays. We went on a coach tour round the whole circuit of Rome and saw all the sights, which was great. Then we went round again and stopped off at St Peter's. It was Palm Sunday and the Pope was doing blessings. I liked seeing the Pope.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE
I didn't like the Colosseum very much because I didn't find it interesting. I did feel a bit amazed that it was built 2,000 years ago with no electrical devices. The reason I didn't like it was because there was nothing to do except looking.
WHAT I ATE AND DRANK
I went to a restaurant in Rome near our hotel. It was great and I had lovely food there. The following night we went to another restaurant where I was asked to eat tripe. Whatever you do, don't eat tripe – it was horrible!
WHAT I SAW
The Sistine Chapel and St Peter's. I thought it was really interesting because of the way everything is made to look small inside St Peter's when in fact it is really big. I saw nearly all the sights in Rome except for Castel Sant'Angelo, which I didn't mind missing. In Florence I saw the Duomo and the brilliant festival on Easter Sunday.
WHAT I BOUGHT
Some leather bracelets for my friends in the Florence market and two sunhats. They remind me of Italy – the land of fashion and food!
