Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

4. Booze ban

From this week, strict new rules on alcohol consumption come into effect in Singapore. You will not be allowed to drink in a public place between 10.30pm and 7am. Drinking is still allowed within these hours in pubs and restaurants. Special rules apply to barbecues – you need a permit from the National Parks Board.

5. Palace refresh

Eltham Palace, hidden deep in the suburbs of south-east London, is an Art Deco treasure attached to a 15th-century Great Hall, where Henry VII played as a boy. It reopens fully this weekend, with a new visitor centre and additional space open to the public – including the bunker used during the war.

6. Fly St Helena

BA's South African partner, Comair, has been chosen to operate flights to the remote island of St Helena when the airport opens next February. The five-hour flights will shuttle every Saturday using a new Boeing 737-800. The overall journey from the UK will take around 19 hours, Comair's bid was accepted in preference to the much faster access from the UK via Accra in Ghana.
