Your support makes all the difference.A Scandinavian hotel chain is set to become the first in the world to adopt a totally organic uniform for its staff later this year.
Swedish-based Scandic, which operates 151 hotels through Scandinavia and Europe, says that the 100% organic uniform will have its own “personality and soul” when it launches later this year.
The chain, which already has an agreement in place with British chef Jamie Oliver to design its menus, says that it will team up with a leading fashion designer to create the uniforms.
Scandic has a good record in environmental leadership, becoming the first hotel to remove bottled water from its hotels in 2008, replacing it instead with chilled, filtered water served in recycled glass bottles designed by world record Swedish swimmer Therese Alshammar.
The move will see it join smaller eco-friendly establishments such as the Kessler Collection’s El Monte Sagrado resort and spa and the boutique Monte Azul Costa Rica which use organic uniforms.
For larger chains, uniforms are an integral part of sustainability efforts, with Wyndham Worldwide switching to uniforms made from recycled plastic bottles in 2008.
Kimpton Hotels and Marriott hotels also produce their uniforms from consumer waste.
