Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Every so often, Jack Sheldon from Jack’s Flight Club selects a flight deal from the UK for Independent readers that you can’t afford to miss. This week: return flights to Hong Kong from £390 return.

If Hong Kong is on your travel bucket list for 2019, check out these great fares from flag carrier Cathay Pacific.

All of these routes fly non-stop and come with your checked bag included in the price. Traditional fares to Hong Kong are around £750, so anything less than £400 is hard to ignore.

How to book

Head to Google Flights and enter your preferred departure airport along with Hong Kong as the destination. You may want to add a “non-stop” or “Cathay Pacific” only filter to help you find the best dates in this deal.

Use Google Flights’ calendar tool to help you highlight the best travel dates (they’ll show up in green). Once you’ve selected your travel itinerary, either proceed to book the itinerary directly on the airline’s website or, for the lowest fares, go to Skyscanner, re-enter your itinerary to see which travel agent is offering the flight at the best price, and book with the agent of your choice.

Pro tips

Hong Kong is famous for being urban, but 40 per cent of the territory is country park – and there are brilliant beaches too. The area of Sai Kung, less than an hour away from the heart of the city, has many smaller islands with a clutch of white-sand beaches, which makes a welcome break from Hong Kong's craziness.
