Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Twin-centre Australia

It's bank holiday – and if you're not out buying a sofa, there are some deals to be had on holidays. One example is Austravel's sale, which lasts until Friday. The price of £1,395pp gets you a twin-centre break with three nights in Sydney at the Cambridge Hotel (room only) and four at the Reef View Hotel on Hamilton Island (half-board). The deal includes Cathay Pacific flights from Heathrow via Hong Kong on 5, 7 and 8 November (austravel.com).

Cape escape

Fleewinter has a break in the trendy Camps Bay suburb of Cape Town. A week's stay at the Casa apartment (ref CCB171) is £1,150pp, based on two people sharing, for stays in September and October. The deal includes South African Airways flights from Heathrow to Cape Town via Johannesburg, with car hire and a whale-spotting excursion (fleewinter.co.uk).

Greece is the word

Grab some late summer sun in Greece. Destinology has a week's half-board at the five-star Daios Cove near Aghios Nikolaos in Crete for £645pp, with flights from Luton to Heraklion travelling between 30 September and 13 October. Book by 31 August (destinology.co.uk).

Austrian ascent

The Austrian mountain village of Lech is a good base for a late-summer walking holiday. Inghams is offering a week's stay at the Chalet Hotel Alexandra for £449pp, with Thomson Airways flights from Gatwick to Innsbruck on 8 Sept. With that, you get breakfast, packed lunches to take out on hikes, afternoon tea when you return, and a five-course meal with wine each night (inghams.co.uk).
