Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Rio revelry

Sunvil Traveller is offering the chance to spend New Year's Eve dancing on the beaches of Rio de Janeiro. Departing on 27 December, the deal includes four nights' B&B accommodation at the five-star Copacabana Palace, overlooking the bay where spectacular fireworks explode on 31 December. The price of £1,950 per person, based on two people travelling together, includes TAM flights from Heathrow to Rio via Sao Paulo (direct flights on the return leg) and transfers (sunvil.co.uk/traveller).

Balinese bliss

Trailfinders has a 12-night break on the Indonesian island of Bali for £1,399 per person. The price includes Malaysia Airlines flights from Heathrow via Kuala Lumpur, a five-day "Beyond Bali's Beaches" private tour, which visits temples, local villages and rice terraces, with hotels, a driver and guide included. Next, it includes transfers to Nusa Dua for eight nights of relaxation at the luxurious Melia hotel. Breakfast included throughout. Valid for departures between 1 February and 20 March, 2013 (trailfinders.com).

Italian summer

Italian specialist Citalia has started its January sale early, with a range of enticing escapes available to book from now until Thursday, 31 January. Examples of deals range from a three-night break to Rome (£189pp, departing on 26 February, with B&B at the San Remo Hotel) to a week on the shores of Lake Garda (£675pp, departing on 2 May with transfers and half-board at the Hotel Olivi). Both include return easyJet flights from Gatwick (citalia.com).
