Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

On the road

If it's flexibility, adventure and value you're after, Austravel has a 21-day fly-drive to New Zealand for £995 per person. It includes motorhome hire for the duration – meaning you can explore the natural wonders and enticing cities of this beautiful country at your own pace – and also Cathay Pacific flights from Heathrow to Auckland via Hong Kong in September (austravel.com).

Thai beach

Trailfinders has a tempting trip to Thailand for £749 per person. The package includes Thai Airways flights from Heathrow to Bangkok, connecting flights to Phuket and road transfers to the Centara Karon Resort. Here, you'll spend eight nights with breakfast and receive an upgrade to Premium Deluxe room. The package is valid for departures between 23 August and 23 October (trailfinders.com).

Italian lakes

Inghams has a week-long break at the far northern limit of Lake Garda for £496 per person. It departs with Thomson Airways flights from either Gatwick or Manchester to Verona on 30 May with transfers and a half-board stay at the Villa Nicolli Hotel in Riva. The town is framed by mountainous scenery to the rear, with idyllic lakeside views stretching out in front, and traditional Italian villas around its shore (inghams.co.uk).

US flights

If you're planning a trip to the East Coast of America this summer, STA Travel has some good fares on return flights at present for the peak period. Fly from Heathrow to New York for £465 or to Boston for £445. Both are with Delta Airlines, and must been booked by 23 May for travel before 22 June (statravel.co.uk).
