Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Big chill

There's still time to try and glimpse the Northern Lights this winter. Specialist tour operator Aurora Zone has one trip based at a spa hotel near Luosto in Finnish Lapland, which departs on 2, 9, 16 and 23 March. The price of £1,225pp includes Finnair flights from Heathrow via Helsinki, transfers, four nights' half-board accommodation, activities, cold-weather clothing and guided Aurora hunts (theaurorazone.com).

Hot seat

On 26 April, Exclusive Escapes has a week at Deniz Feneri Lighthouse, a waterfront hotel on the Kas Peninsula of Turkey. Set above a private beach, it offers a waterside restaurant, pool and spa. The price for seven nights is £750pp including flights from Stansted or Manchester to Dalaman, transfers, a day's gulet cruise and Turkish bath (exclusiveescapes.co.uk).

Wine time

Kirker Holidays has a gourmet break to the commune of Bouliac, just outside Bordeaux, for £688pp. The three-night jaunt is based at the five-star Le Saint James hotel, an 18th-century farmhouse with its own vineyard and gourmet restaurant. Valid for stays until 9 April, it includes BA flights from Gatwick, private transfers, breakfast and a free cooking class or wine-tasting session (kirkerholidays.com).

Head east

On 3 May, Journeys of Distinction has an 11-day "Adventures in China" tour which takes in Beijing, the Great Wall, Xian, the Terracotta Army and Shanghai. The price of £2,070pp includes Air France flights from Heathrow via Paris, B&B hotels, some other meals, excursions and guiding (jod.uk.com).
