Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

September sun

Morocco is a good mid-haul destination for some September sun. Fleewinter has one deal, which includes a week’s stay at the Rebali Riads in the southern village of Sidi Kaouki on the Atlantic coast. The property has various pools, a tennis court and hammam, while each of the individual riads has a retractable sliding glass roof and kitchenette. The price is £238pp, based on two sharing, for stays throughout this month, including breakfast and transfers from Marrakech, but not flights (fleewinter.com).

Upmarket India

See the sights of India in style. Bales Worldwide has a 13-night tour on 25 October which coincides with Diwali, the festival of lights. It takes in the holy city of Varanasi on the Ganges, the ruins of Fatehpur Sikri, the pink city of Jaipur and the lakeside city of Udaipur, as well as the Taj Mahal and Agra. The “Classic India” trip costs £2,345pp, including Virgin Atlantic flights from Heathrow to Delhi, accommodation, most meals and excursions (balesworldwide.com).

Swiss bliss

If it’s a short break you’re after, the five-star Rosa Alpina hotel in the Italian Dolomites has a three-night package for €470pp (£402) for stays until 22 September. This month, the mountain air should be crisp as the region readies itself for the first dusting of snow, making it an ideal time to head out hiking, biking and cycling – or simply cocoon yourself away at the hotel’s spa, where complimentary access is included. The package also comes with breakfast, a three-course dinner and free mountain bike rental. Flights are extra (rosalpina.it).
