Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

PEDAL POWER

If you're keen to take a cycling holiday this summer, where better than Provence? The region's gentle slopes provide ideal terrain for any two-wheeled traveller. Utracks has one week-long option that departs and ends in Graveson, with stops in Tarascon, Arles and St-Rémy for £795pp. Bike hire, hotels, most meals and luggage transfers included, with departures until 31 October, but not flights (utracks.com).

SPLASH OUT

The Malaysian island of Langkawi offers a slice of luxury in the Andaman Sea. For travel between 1 May and 17 July, Turquoise Holidays has a 10-night trip to The Datai – a 125-room retreat, surrounded by tropical forest, with a pool, private beach and golf course. The price of £2,120pp includes breakfast, Malaysian Airlines flights from Heathrow and private transfers (turquoiseholidays.co.uk).

BEACH BLISS

For a fuss-free escape to the Greek Islands, consider Sunvil Holidays. On 26 May, it has a week in Corfu, based at the self-catering Ammos Bay apartments, set back from the beach in the village of Agios Gordios. The price of £446pp includes Gatwick flights and transfers (sunvil.co.uk).

SUMMER SUN

On 17 June, Classic Collection Holidays has a week in Mallorca for £799pp. Based at the Mallorca Palace hotel, a traditional five-star property on the quiet east coast near S'illot and Sa Coma, the package includes breakfast, flights from Gatwick and private transfers (classic-collection.co.uk).
