Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

FRENCH FLING

Eurostar is currently offering discounted rail tickets from London St Pancras to a range of alluring destinations in France. All involve a change in Paris or Lille, for travel between now and 17 April, and again between 2 June and 24 August, with some exclusion dates. Return fares start at £199 for Marseille, Montpellier, Aix-en-Provence and Avignon, while Lyon is available for £109 (eurostar.com).

ITALIAN ISLE

If you're short on time and tight on budget, consider a three-night city break to the Sicilian capital, Palermo. The deal, with Travel Interaction, costs £239pp, based on a B&B stay at the Palazzo Sitano with Ryanair flights from Stansted on various dates between 25 June and 15 July (travelinteraction.co.uk).

EASTERN PROMISE

Take in the mesmerising sights of Japan on a 10-night tour with Virgin Holidays. Departing on 30 May, with flights from Heathrow to Tokyo included, it spends time in the capital, before heading to Mount Fuji, Kyoto, Nara and more. The price of £2,759pp includes rides on the Shinkansen bullet trains, mixed-board hotels and sightseeing (virginholidaysjourneys.co.uk).

CANARY CALL

Fuerteventura offers a reliable climate and quieter beaches than some of its neighbouring Canary Islands. For £525pp, you can spend a week soaking up the sunshine at the five-star Sheraton resort on the island's east coast. Valid for stays between 1 May and 24 June, the holiday includes breakfast and flights from Gatwick. Book by 15 April (destinology.co.uk).
