Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Golden glow

It's still in the mid-20Cs in Cyprus, which makes it an enticing prospect for an autumn beach break. Olympic Holidays has a week's five-star break near Paphos for £716pp later this month. The price includes flights from Gatwick on 20 October, transfers and accommodation with breakfast at the Coral Beach Hotel on the Akamas Peninsula, around 20 minutes' drive from Paphos Town (olympicholidays.com).

Channel hop

Cross to Jersey for October half term. Modern Hotels is offering a three-night stay at the three-star Mayfair Hotel in St Helier for £175 per adult and £99 for under-12s, including return Fastcat passenger crossing from Poole or Weymouth between 19 October and 1 November (a car is an additional £98). The hotel has a kids club and indoor pool for inclement days (modernhotels.com).

Cruise control

Cruise and Maritime Voyages is offering a free Caribbean cruise next month. The offer applies to a full fare-paying customer departing the London Cruise Terminal, Tilbury, on 3 November on a month-long voyage to nine Caribbean Islands and the Azores – a free accompanying place is offered for the price of £2,699 full board in an inside cabin, free upgrades subject to availability (cruiseandmaritime.com).

Alternative Indian Ocean

Jet off for a luxurious escape on Mozambique's Benguerra Island in the dreamy Bazaruto archipelago. Turquoise Holidays is offering a week-long break at Azura from £2,895pp with flights, all-inclusive accommodation and helicopter transfers. The price is valid for travel between 12 January and 31 March 2014 (turquoiseholidays.co.uk).
