Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Club class

Turquoise Holidays has a shoulder-season week at the five-star Colony Club in Barbados for £1,379pp including flights from Gatwick on British Airways and transfers. The price includes breakfast and access to the resort’s tennis courts, spa and watersports. You must travel between 22 April and 31 May, when the temperature is likely to be in the high 20Cs, though there’s chance of an afternoon shower (turquoiseholidays.co.uk).

Mauritian moment

If you can travel before 15 March, there’s a week in Mauritius for £1,215pp with Western & Oriental. The holiday includes a stay at Outrigger Resort and Spa, on the south coast in Bel Ombre, where all rooms face the Indian Ocean, with their own private balcony or garden. Full board and transfers are included, as are flights – but they involve a change of plane: Air France from Heathrow via Paris (westernoriental.com).

Stretch out

For a spot of R&R, consider a trip to Thailand with The Healthy Holiday Company, which has a week at Aava Resort & Spa in Khanom for £1,150pp in March. The package includes B&B in a poolside villa, Thai Airways flights from Heathrow to Surat Thani via Bangkok and transfers. The resort offers a spa with free yoga and pilates classes (thehealthyholidaycompany.co.uk).

North star

Until 31 March, the Mighty Fine Company is offering trips to Alta in northern Norway, with a Northern Lights tour and a stay in an igloo hotel, for £1,074pp. The four-day holiday includes B&B at the Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel and the Rica Hotel, with an aurora tour and SAS flights from Heathrow (mightyfinecompany.com).
