Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Family Austria

The school summer holidays are imminent and Inghams has one option that could work for a family break. The price of £2,399 buys two adults and two children a week in the Austrian resort of Obergurgl. It includes easyJet flights from Gatwick to Innsbruck on 4 August, transfers and a half-board in shared room at Hotel Edelweiss and Gurgl, which runs a free daily activity programme (inghams.co.uk).

Singapore sling

If you can get away in mid-November, Austravel has a twin-centre trip combining the sights of Singapore with the beaches of Western Australia for £995. It includes Singapore Airlines flights from Heathrow to the island state for two nights at the Miramar Hotel, connecting flights to Perth, followed by four nights at the Seashells Mandurah (both room only). Book by 18 July; travel on 10, 12 or 13 Nov (austravel.com).

Take to the water

Waterways Holidays has four narrowboats available for British boating breaks this summer. Examples of prices for a week's hire include £1,100 for the Ostentatious boat (sleeps six) which is available from 28 July, 11, 18 and 25 August. Pick up is from Worcester, where tuition is provided, after which you're free to pootle along the canals of the West Midlands at your own pace (waterwaysholidays.com).

Kefalonia cottage

A week in a Greek self-catering retreat on this Ionian island for £1,393 for two sharing, or £1,693 for four. Start any date between 1 and 19 Aug for a stylish stay at Fig Cottage – a whitewashed villa with a roof terrace, sea views and a shared pool. Flights not included. Book by 15 August (i-escape.com/fiskardo-cottages).
