Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

One of northern France's most beguiling resorts is about to be reconnected to Britain. After the failure of Love Air's link from Lydd airport in Kent to Le Touquet, a new company called Lydd Air (01797 320 00) is starting flights to the resort.
From 1 June, a 16-seat Trislander aircraft will make one return flight a day to Le Touquet, going out at 9.30am and inbound at 5pm, local time. The trip is scheduled to take half an hour. Fares range from £51.50 to £111.50; because the plane is so small, it avoids Air Passenger Duty.
Bargain of the week: Eurostar
The Channel Tunnel rail company has just announced summer price-cuts that save £20 return on the usual cheapest fares – and offer tempting prices for first-class travel, getting you to France and back in comfort for under £100.
In standard class, Lille is on sale for £49 return, with Paris (and Brussels) costing £59. A first-class upgrade costs an additional £50 return.
The booking rules are complicated. You can travel only between 7 June and 14 August. You must book at least two weeks in advance, and in the period between 24 May and 7 July. And you have to stay away at least two nights, or over a Saturday night.
Warning of the week: crime on the Cote d'Azur
"In the South of France, particularly in the Marseille to Menton area, drivers are advised to keep car doors locked when driving. It is common for bags to be snatched from the front passenger seat, often when the vehicle is stationary at traffic lights and usually by individuals on motorbikes. Visitors are advised not to leave bags in full view when sitting on café terraces to avoid attracting the attention of thieves." – the latest Foreign Office travel advice.
